The Heritage Society was established in 2000 to recognize friends of the American Kidney Fund who have either funded or planned a deferred gift, such as a bequest or life income plan.

Since 1971, the American Kidney Fund has benefited from the foresight and generosity of supporters like you who have invested in the future by naming AKF as a beneficiary. Many other giving options are available too, and these planned gifts help underwrite the services and programs of the American Kidney Fund.

What is the Heritage Society?

Many deferred gifts arrive at the American Kidney Fund unannounced, without advance knowledge about someone's intentions until the bequest is received. AKF is very grateful for these gifts, but deeply regrets the missed opportunity to thank the generous individuals who make the gift during their lifetimes. When AKF is aware that friends intend to contribute deferred gift support, we can work with them to ensure their interest and intentions are clearly understood and can be followed accurately. When a supporter notifies the American Kidney Fund of his or her intent to leave a planned gift, he or she is welcomed as a member of the Heritage Society. Of course, the value and detail of each gift plan is strictly confidential.

Heritage Society History

Dr. Jack Moncrief and his wife, Betty, have had a lifelong dedication to kidney patients. In 1985, they opened a summer camp for children undergoing dialysis, chemotherapy treatments, and who had epilepsy, lung or heart problems. For twelve years, Betty managed the camp and Jack was the camp doctor. More than 1,000 children enjoyed this special camp.

With their dedication to kidney patients, and as a Board of Trustee member of the American Kidney Fund, the Moncriefs had a stake in AKF. They favored the American Kidney Fund with gifts during their lifetime and have created an estate plan naming AKF as a beneficiary. The Moncriefs believe deeply that their gifts serve the future and their example leads the way for other supporters to plan charitable gifts as well.

If you have already made a gift in an estate plan to the American Kidney Fund, please take a moment to let us know by e-mailing Daniell Griffin, Senior Director of Individual Giving at dgriffin@kidneyfund.org. We would love the opportunity to welcome you to the Heritage Society and ensure that your gift is fulfilled as you intended.
